Therefore, it is important to identify a toxic relationship and its characteristics before it instills deep despair and grief in people, thereby leading to mental health issues.

Here are some of the ways by which a toxic relationship affects one’s self-esteem and overall well-being in the long run:

  • Subject to constant domination: Instead of inducing the feeling of goodness and optimism, a toxic relationship makes a person weak both mentally and physically on a daily basis. When people try ruling their partners’ life by forcing them to follow their ideas, there is an increased risk of witnessing adverse repercussions on mental and physical health. Despite not being happy in the relationship, one tends to stay in it, which further aggravate the situation.
  • Indulging in criticisms: Constant criticisms can bring down a person’s level of confidence, which further leads to a series of mental health issues, such as depression.   • Unhappiness over unimportant things: In a toxic relationship, a partner complains for every little thing and does not seem to be happy or encouraging, which dashes the hopes of the other person. Such a characteristic can create a stressful environment that can lead to stress, anxiety, etc.
  • Not ready to accept his or her fault: A partner in a toxic relationship thinks that he or she does not need the other person’s views as he or she is always right. Although a break up can be painful, it can prove to be one of the most amazing choices in terms of personal growth. Therefore, one should learn to take the challenges of life instead of going with the flow.

While toxic relationships can drain out one’s self-confidence and may lead to extremely harmful mental and physical conditions, a healthy relationship and a supportive partner can be a blessing for a person from all perspectives. By talking to the partner and sorting things out, one can work toward the goal of rebuilding and strengthening a toxic relationship. Otherwise, one should leave such a relationship and indulge in some creative jobs, exercise, eat healthy food, do meditation to relieve stress.
